A CONVERT'S STRUGGLE WITH ISAIAH 53 Yoana Yehudah For several weeks during the winter of 2007 I pored over Isaiah chapter 53, making a concerted effort to finally come to grips with this chapter, which, more than any other in the Tanach, is used, or shall I say abused, by Christians to justify their belief that their messiah is in fact the long-awaited one who had supposedly come as the “suffering servant”, died and was resurrected as the “savior” of the world.  It is therefore a chapter that I had been careful to avoid reading since becoming Jewish, because it was simply too painful to once again be confronted with the brainwashing I had endured during my 55 years as a Christian.
